Prenatal Yoga

We have found (after 20 years experience) that, in a small town, it’s sometimes difficult to get enough people who are pregnant at the right time who want to do Prenatal Yoga at the same time. However, when it comes together it is such sweetness and great support.
Next Prenatal Series:
Saturday January 24th - March 14th from 11am - 12:15pm
This will be a great time to meet other pregnant moms while you experience the unique practice of prenatal yoga. This class is appropriate for all stages of pregnancy.
Classes will include: supportive breath work, empowering movement, a focus on pelvic floor wellbeing, therapeutic stretching, self-myofascial release work, and a deep sense of community.
You can pre-register here:  https://www.flowhoodriver.com/event-calendar.htm

Program Pricing
$129 for the series (up to 8 classes)
Especially given our teachers' educational and experience investment plus the small class sizes we offer, our program is very reasonably priced at $129 for up to 8 classes. Everyone usually misses, at least, one class for some reason and we price the program knowing that. Comparatively, prenatal classes in Portland are priced at $38 for a Drop-In, or an 8-class package for $275.  Therefore, we can not offer a pro-rate or make-up class. However, for those who are well into their third trimester, we do offer a pro-rate on the series for classes past their due date.

About your teacher:
Jessica Valentín is passionate about supporting women through the seasons of their lives with holistic movement and wellness guidance. With her extensive training as a professional dancer, and a decade of experience teaching yoga and functional movement, she brings an embodied wisdom to facilitating movement guidance for others. As a first time mama, she recently experienced the unique season of pregnancy in her own body, and is looking forward to sharing the benefits of prenatal movement with expecting mamas in the Gorge. Jessica offers practical and relatable movement guidance for mamas-to-be, and is especially interested in helping women understand the nuances of moving in a pregnant body.

What are some of the benefits of Prenatal Yoga?
1) Prenatal yoga can be an ideal way for moms-to-be to stay fit. Whether you're a newbie or a veteran, yoga can keep you limber, tone your muscles, and improve your balance and circulation during pregnancy – all with very little impact on your joints.
2) Yoga helps you face the physical demands of labor, birth, and new motherhood. Yoga teaches you how to breathe deeply and consciously relax. Learning to breathe fully is one of the first things you'll learn in a yoga class. To use the breathing technique practiced in yoga, known as ujjayi, you take in air slowly through your nose, and exhale completely through your nose.
3) Prenatal yoga primes you for labor and childbirth. Learning ujjayi breathing helps you stay calm when you need it most. When you're in pain or afraid, your body produces adrenaline and may produce less oxytocin, a hormone that makes labor progress. A regular yoga practice will help you resist the urge to tighten up when you feel pain. By practicing relaxation in yoga, you’ll find yourself better equipped to handle stressful situations.
4) Yoga lowers risks for you and your baby. According to a review of 10 research studies, prenatal yoga lowers your chance of having pregnancy complications, your pain and stress levels, and possibly even your risk of having a baby who is small for his gestational age.
5) You can find a healthy community. The benefits of yoga aren't limited to your pregnancy and physical well-being. Taking a prenatal yoga class is a great way to meet other pregnant women and to become part of a community. Being in a positive, supportive environment with others can give you a regular emotional boost.

In the meantime, or if there is not a Prenatal Series offered at this time:
A pregnant person can do nearly everything in our classes that a non-pregnant person can with just a few modifications. We have a gentle Hatha Flow class on Monday nights and Friday at Noon that is a great, relaxing place to start. We could also set up a private session, so we can teach you to modify in a regular class, if you like. Tuesday and Thursday morning Gentle practices at 10:30 are also classes that are great to attend when pregnant, if you want something even more relaxing.

If interested in Prenatal Yoga specifically, please email Stephanie at [email protected], to be put on a waitlist for a prenatal series and if/once we get enough persons we will offer it again.
