Calling all Gorge mamas and your precious babes - let's gather, move together, and cultivate community! This special postpartum movement class series will provide a supportive space for mamas and your pre-crawling babes to bond through a nourishing movement practice. We will move in ways that help heal, rebuild, and strengthen our bodies after childbirth, and alleviate the common tight/sore spots that come with motherhood. There will be a focus on core and pelvic floor reintegration, bodyweight strength exercises, therapeutic stretching, self-myofascial release work, and sustainable ways to move through daily babycare to prevent tension patterns from taking root in your body. Throughout class, we will be weaving in creative movement with your baby, and specific movements just for your baby. This is time for you, mama, to move your body for physical and emotional wellbeing, connect with other local mamas, and share in the joy of movement with your little one.
Nursing, diaper changing, crying babies, sleeping babies, and playful babies are all welcome in this space. We will use various props to support our movement practice. Please bring a baby blanket to use during class to place over the studio props, and anything else that will make your time in class more comfortable. Your baby doesn't have to be present at every class, or any class, if you'd rather take this time for some solo mama movement. The structure of these classes is very flexible and adaptable!
About your teacher, Jessica Valentín: Jessica is a new mama, and she and her baby boy are really looking forward to sharing this communal movement experience with you and your sweet babe. “Moved to guide and empower individuals who are inspired to explore their capacity for growth, I communicate a passion for movement and wellness practices rooted in nature connection. I draw upon my knowledge gained through personal experience in my various channels of creative professions as a dancer, movement teacher, and healer. From an early age, I have been curious and invested in exploring and deepening the connection between my mind, body, and spirit through the medium of dance. I am a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and a minor in Psychology. While finishing my studies at NYU, I trained to become a 300 hour licensed Mind Body Dancer® yoga teacher. Alongside dancing professionally in NYC, I developed my body of holistic movement and wellness work, Luminous Architecture. In 2018, I set out on new adventures and headed West. Relocating to the Pacific Northwest has allowed me to live in closer connection with the rhythms of nature. I spend my time and energy weaving an interconnected web of wellness, honoring the wisdom of the natural world and the cycles we find within it as guidance for how I structure my own life, and facilitate my movement offerings to others.”
