In consideration of others and for your own comfort:
Above all kindness (ahimsa).
Wear comfortable clothing and bare feet for yoga (stocking feet are acceptable for those who are not comfortable barefoot). For S45 and Tempo classes, you can wear clean shoes if you choose (indoor shoes only, please).
Yoga is best practiced with an empty stomach and bladder.
Bring your own personal mat for both hygienic & sustainability reasons. If you regularly attend classes at Flow (unlimited members), you can store your mat onsite for your convenience.
Please refrain from wearing perfume or other fragrances in consideration of the close space and fragrance sensitivities. Also, please come to the studio clean and without strong body odors.
We honor each other's personal boundaries, physically and emotionally:
We practice nasal breathing as the foundation for our classes. Consider this: your breath, when balanced between active and calm, can be heard only to you, not the person across the room.
Please be aware of any behavior that may be distracting to a fellow student's practice or triggering to someone who has experienced trauma (talking during class, staring, heavy/loud breathing, loud noises, etc.)
Please do not touch anyone without their consent.
Please do not instruct, criticize, or correct your fellow students.
If you are planning to do a sequence of poses that varies a lot from what is being offered by the teacher, please set your mat up in the back of the studio space, so that you do not confuse or distract other students.
Please practice stillness during savasana. If you need to get up or leave, please do so prior or after.
Give yourself the gift of presence and mindfulness during classes which means not being on phones or electronic devices. This behavior can be distracting to others, as well.
Thank you for your understanding.
Temperature & Fresh Air Ventilation
For our yoga classes we keep the room nicely warm at 72 degrees, and for Warm Flow about 80 degrees (warm but not too hot). However, we open the big rolling door (BRD) during our fitness classes to increase fresh-air ventilation and maintain a healthy studio environment.
Here’s how it works for each format: Cycle
The BRD stays open for the entire class unless the temperature is below 20°F.
For Tue/Thu 8:15am Cycle, we hold class outdoors unless it’s below 30°F or precipitating.
Strength45 (S45) & Tempo
The BRD stays open the entire class except in winter.
In winter months, the door will be opened after warm-up and remain open until we come down to our mats for cooldown, unless it’s below 20°F, snowing, or blowing rain where the door remains closed.
Temperature Preferences & Self-Regulation:
Those who prefer a warmer spot are welcome to set up toward the back of the room where the heaters are, and wear warmer layered clothing.
Those who like it cooler or want more ventilation can set up closer to the BRD/front of the room.
Thank you all for helping us create a comfortable and healthy space for everyone. Benefits of Training in a Cooler, Fresh-Air Environment
Improved performance and stamina Cooler temperatures help regulate body heat so you can work harder and longer with less fatigue.
Lower risk of overheating Supports stable heart rate, reduces dizziness or nausea, and keeps the nervous system more balanced esp during more intense work.
Better recovery between intervals Muscles rebound more quickly, and your perceived exertion stays lower, making workouts feel more sustainable.
Enhanced metabolic function through brown fat activation Mild cold exposure activates brown adipose tissue, which burns energy to create heat and supports efficient metabolism.
Increased oxygen availability Fresh air circulation reduces CO₂ buildup, helping you breathe more easily, focus more clearly, and maintain consistent energy.
Supports immune health during cold & flu season Higher ventilation significantly reduces the concentration of airborne viruses, lowering the likelihood of spreading illness in group settings.
Reduced spread of respiratory droplets A cooler, ventilated room decreases stagnant air and disperses particles more quickly, supporting a safer environment for everyone.
More control for individual comfort Participants who prefer it warmer can layer or move near heaters; those who prefer cooler air can position closer to the BRD — making the environment inclusive for all.
Creates a more alert, energized feeling Cooler environments naturally increase wakefulness, mental clarity, and vigor during training.
Aligns with long-term health and longevity models Training without overheating supports sustainable cardiovascular conditioning and nervous system resilience.
Covid and Health Precautions:
We continue to offer live-streaming and recorded access to our classes. For all who enjoy attending in-studio, here are 10 things that may be useful for you to know: 1) Fresh air ventilation: Most Mon-Sat mornings we flush out the studio with fresh air ventilation for 45 minutes - we have the big rolling door open washing the studio in fresh air. We have this door open for our Strength45 and Tempo Flow classes which occur 6 days a week. 2) Medify Air Scrubber is running before and during class - scientifically proven to scrub 99.9% of viruses, particles, etc from the studio air: “Medify's MA-40 and MA-50 air purifiers, designed for commercial and residential applications, were found to remove 99.99% of airborne particles related to COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)…” 3) Catechin Filters: Our new mini splits (two directly in the main studio and one in the back room) feature catechin filters: “Catechin — which has antiviral and antibacterial properties — is infused into every molecule of these filters, which enables them to strip the passing air of odor-causing pollutants such as tobacco smoke and pet smells. An equally important benefit is that they trap and deactivate microscopic bacteria and viruses, which can diminish or prevent the spread of some diseases.” 4) We run an air purifier 24/7 in the bathroom, as well. 5) Yoga is one of the least risky indoor activities as shown in a South Korea study where Covid-infected teachers taught (without any Covid precautions) the following formats: bootcamp, Zumba, yoga and pilates. The bootcamp and Zumba classes had significant Covid transmission. The yoga and pilates classes had zero Covid transmission. Yes: ZERO. This is believed to be due to the fact that people stay on a mat (naturally distancing), breathe through their noses, and are not forcefully expelling droplets through intense exertion. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7392463/ 6) The studio is regularly cleaned by our amazing and dedicated seva crew. 7) We provide alcohol wipes for disinfecting all hard surface props (mats, blocks, dumbbells, etc). 8) We encourage and teach nose breathing. 9) We care about our community's health! Please do not come to class if you have been ill or exposed to illness. Follow CDC guidelines for quarantining AND please Covid test often. When in doubt, live-stream or recordings! 10) Masks are optional.
