Yoga & Mindfullness for Kids & Teens: A Teacher Training



Teaching yoga and mindfulness to children and teens is a rewarding experience that doesn’t have to be overly challenging. We will teach you how to use yogic practices and techniques combined with playful and positive activities. The Kids Yoga Teacher Training includes a three-hour portion Saturday evening called Mindfulness Practices for Children & Teens taught by Karen Bullard. She will explain a brief history of mindfulness in Education as well as the concepts of engaging all 5 senses via mindful breathing, mindful listening, mindful eating, as well as the importance of kindness and gratitude. This training will be participatory, experiential and fun and will include a certificate code to enroll for discounted online classes via Mindful Schools (


This 14-Hour Training includes a teaching manual with many cooperative-learning based yoga and mindfulness activities. This training also includes activities that promote Emotional Intelligence, Physical Education, and Character Education.


Trauma-Informed Kids Yoga & Mindfulness on Friday:

This workshop will review the important role of yoga and mindfulness in the schools as a means for implementing trauma informed practices and interventions. An review of the effects of stress and trauma in children from a trauma-informed sense will be presented as well as models and theories that may be helpful in the conceptualization of trauma’s effects and impact on students. An overview of the research concerning challenges and difficulties of a yoga program rollout, as well as recommendations concerning the implementation of yoga programs in schools will be presented. Principles for trauma-informed practices as well as yoga and mindfulness interventions will be detailed. The practical application of positive mind-body classroom practices will also be discussed.

Stephanie Adams

Stephanie is the founder of Jaya Yoga Teacher Training, and owner of Flow Yoga. She developed the Kids Yoga & Mindfulness training program almost 20 years ago in the Seattle Public School system with the support of the Principals and staff.



Karen Bullard

Karen Bullard, RYT 500, who is a Yoga & Mindfulness instructor based in the Seattle area who teaches students from elementary school age up to college level. Karen is trained by 8 Limbs, Flow Yoga/Jaya Yoga Teacher Training, and Mindful Schools. Karen (aka Karb) will present the idea of Mindfulness in the classroom (or yoga studio) as well as some simple practices that can be introduced to kids ages 5 – adult.



Esther E. E. Estey

Registered LPC Intern, NCC, Counseling Psychology Doctoral Student – Esther is a doctoral student in the Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology program at University at Buffalo, NY. She is on the research team of Dr. Cook-Cottone and is currently involved in research of yoga and mindfulness for psychosocial disorders, yoga for child cancer patients and their parents, as well as school-based yoga programs. She is especially interested in multicultural populations and seeing how these adaptive strategies would be effective with these populations. She has a Master’s in Human Resources, a Master’s in Counseling with a specialization in Child and Youth therapy, National Certified Counselor certification, and a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certificate from Flow Yoga/Jaya Yoga TT. She created a yoga and mindfulness wellness program for survivors of abuse at HAVEN in the Dalles, Oregon, and has worked as bilingual counselor, incorporating mind-body interventions in therapy to treat individuals who have experienced domestic violence, sexual abuse, and sexual assault.
