Santosha - Contentment October, 2009

OCT THEME: CONTENTMENT

THEME: Santosha - contentment
PHYSICAL PRACTICE: Relaxation
(relaxing and restorative poses)

Contentment is the afterglow and the result of living honestly and truthfully. Santosha is present whan we stop defining what makes us happy.~Sybil, Flow Yoga Instructor

Santosha, contentment, the essence of our living practice - what all of the other yamas and niyamas are preparing and guiding us towards.  Reminding ourselves that we are Exactly where we are meant to be - in the perfect place, time, and environment - and resting in the peace of that within ourselves especially in moments when the world around us feels as though it is in chaos.  Being grateful for each moment when this complete contentment is present, and knowing that as we continually recommit ourselves to our practice - these experiences will happen more often and last for longer periods... leading towards what is referred to as a "fully enlightened existence".  It is there for each and every one of us.~Jody, Flow Yoga Instructor

Masks of Ego

October 30-November 1 2009
Weekend Intensive to Explore
Character Fixation With Adi

A few words from Stephanie about this upcoming workshop, "The Enneagram system is old, sacred, and no one "really" knows where it came from. What is great about this system is that it is not just another way to identify yourself, but to realize that this character fixation is NOT who you really are.

The recurring patterns that can lead to subtle or profound suffering that come from our character fixations actually, eventually, can lead us to freedom, liberation, or Self realization. A lot of the "feel good" spirituality out there, although it can be truly wonderful experientially, may keep us from truly discovering our character fixations. With Awareness, we can accept ourselves with deep compassion, and transformation just happens...without effort....with grace...we experience our True Selves. This system can be very useful in terms of understanding each other, and ourselves."

Masks of Ego

In denial of our True Nature we have assumed an identity that limits who we are. This intensive will be an opportunity to understand the patterns and trends that have steered you away from who you truly, truly are. We will be talking about the Enneagram system and using Buddhist psychology teachings to unravel the identification as a separate self, and connect with the Oneness of one's True Nature. Each of our sessions will include a simple, soulful yoga class*, several meditations, and group meetings for deeper investigations. Every participant will have an opportunity for a one-on-one session with Adi as well.

$95 for one person
$150 for a couple, or two friends paying at the same time

*You do not have to have any prior experience with yoga to attend.  Very basic and rejuvenating movement.

Happy Halloween!

Freaky, scary Halloween yoga?  Come celebrate with Sybil at a rockin class on Thursday night October 29th at 6 pm, AND join us in costume (if you dare!) 8 am Flow Halloween morning (Sat) with Steph and be ready for a trick or a treat!

Check out our new Basic Yoga classes!  Have a friend who is intimidated by yoga, but who would greatly benefit?  Grab a free class pass (must live in Gorge & be 1st time).  Tell you friend to come in a T-Shirt and comfy pants, we'll even provide the free mat rental for this class.  Emma now teaches Core Basic Yoga on Weds at noon. Great class for pelvic stability, core training and toning, and detailed alignment. Adi teaches Basic Yoga at 4:30 pm on Thursdays – this Iyengar-inspired class focuses on detailed alignment.

Lots more evening and morning cycle classes coming in November - let Flow be your winter location for "indoor training for the outdoors"!

Tues/Thurs 9 am Flow classes move to 9:15 am to allow our 8 am cycle students enough time to transition from cycle to yoga. This cycle/yoga combination is a fantastic workout – cardio, strength and flexibility – you feel amazing. Cycle is a great warm-up for yoga – warmer muscles allow for deeper flexibility.

Tues 6 pm Power Flow changes to Flow – you now have two 6 pm Flow classes during the week for those of you who need to attend classes a bit later.

Yoga Practice Gives You More Time

The front cover of Yoga Journal this month states, "YOGA PARADOX: taking time to practice gives you more time".  When we make priorities in our lives that bring us greater health, balance and joy, we are following the wisdom of our hearts.  The heart pumps blood to itself first, before it pumps blood to the rest of the body.

It always makes me smile with compassion when I meet a yoga student in the store and she says to me, "I just havent had any time to do yoga lately."  Yes, I understand how hectic life can be.  As a mother of three, a business owner, a traveling yoga teacher trainer, and a recovering Type A personality, I have, many times in my life, found reasons for not putting my health and harmony first.

One thing my yoga practice has taught me over the last 15 years, however, is that putting my practice first, actually improves the lives of those around me. I have students who share with me how their partners say to them when they get stressed out, "Honey, maybe you should go to yoga." This is a very sweet way of gently reminding a partner that "when you take care of yourself, you contribute to the harmony in our home."

We become more grounded, and flow through the ups and downs of lives with equanmity.  We are more present in each moment.  The perception of time isnt fear or stress based.  From this place of clarity, decisions are easier to make, tasks are accomplished with greater creativity and inspiration, and life just flows with a deeper sense of ease on the ground of contentment.
